Location: Sydney, NSW

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Automation Engineer - Robotics to join our Service and Solutions Team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in a project team across multiple industrial, FMCG, and medical environments in robotic applications including material handling and bespoke automation systems.


Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Service Delivery
    • Work individually and as a team in executing industrial automation projects from initiation to completion, ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and within budget.
    • Design and conduct Proof of Concept (PoC) trials, providing consultation services to clients by being a Subject Matter Expert on industrial best design and processes relating to robotics and general automation.
    • Undertake Safety Machine Assessments, ensuring compliance with AS and CE industry safety standards
    • Both coordinate and personally execute field service visits and remote technical support, ensuring high-quality service delivery. Log site visits and generate future opportunities.
    • Utilize the PoC Centre’s capabilities to drive innovative solutions and project outcomes.
    • Lead, plan and coordinate both internal and external labour resources 
  2. Concept Design and Create Prototypes
    • Use your knowledge of material handling techniques to refine OEM gripper selection, along with developing custom end effectors (/grippers) as required.
    • Competent in 3D/2D CAD packages (eg Fusion360) to provide 2D manufacturing drawings to a high quality relating to robotic and automation applications
    • Competent in creating prototypes using in house 3D printers, or basic hand tools
    • 3D reach tests and analysis
    • Professional report writing and client presentations 
  3. Demonstrate best-practices in Project Delivery
    • Lead by example in following best practices, tools, and frameworks to ensure consistent and effective project delivery.
    • Execute against project management processes within OMRON’s strategic goals to support scalable and efficient execution.
    • Build robotic and technical capabilities within internal teams through coaching and hands-on mentorship.
    • Professionally delivery of training to internal and client stakeholders
    • Provide a high level of customer satisfaction
  4. Any other duties assigned by the direct manager

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or extensive experience in a related field.
  • 5+years of Site experience in developing robotics solutions for various industries using different types of robots and end-effectors in complex project environments.
  • Experience in working in project teams, managing stakeholder relationships, and resource planning.
  • Experience with safety machine assessments, field service operations, preventative maintenance, and industrial system integration.
  • Extensive Experience in a wide range of Robotic and Automation platforms, both OMRON and competitors; plus Vision experience will be an advantage.
  • Certified Machine Safety Expert qualifications are desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver complex automation projects on time, within scope, and on budget, while maintaining high-quality outcomes.
  • Ability to grow internal stakeholders into a highly skilled project delivery team.
  • Management of robotic install base (grow service business).
  • Exceptional communicator with a track record of fostering teamwork and driving cross-functional collaboration. Able to create and oversee the design of mechanical and electrical automation systems from concept to site delivery.
