We are seeking an experienced Application Engineer / Senior Application Engineer to join our OMRON New Zealand team, reporting to the Engineering Team Leader. This role is pivotal in providing technical leadership, application expertise, and engineering solutions to support both internal teams and customers. 

The Senior Application Engineer will be responsible for developing automation solutions, supporting sales growth, and driving customer engagement through hands-on technical support, training, and system implementation.

About the role:

  • Leading technical support and application know-how to develop new business and support existing customers.
  • Designing and implementing automation systems using OMRON's industrial automation components, controllers, IoT, Robotics, and AI technologies.
  • Building strategic relationships with system integrators, consultants, and educational institutions to drive business growth.
  • Providing pre-sales engineering support, including system design, tendering, proof of concept, and technical demonstrations.
  • Conducting on-site sales calls, customer training, and product knowledge development for both internal teams and clients.
  • Leading trade shows, roadshows, and training courses to enhance sales and customer capabilities.
  • Delivering OMRON engineering services to ensure high-quality automation solutions.

About you:

  • BEng / BS degree in Electrical or Mechatronics Engineering or EWRB Registration.
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in a related field. 
  • Proven experience and understanding of automation products and solutions 
  • Proven experience in control system design, programming, and commissioning with experience in C#, VB.NET will be highly regarded
  • Ability to interpret engineering diagrams and technical manuals to be able to learn and translate the information to the customer base
  • Competent ability in troubleshooting and fault-finding control system hardware (PLC, HMI and VSDs)
  • Skills in networking and experience with serial / ethernet based industrial protocols such as EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.
  • Experience and a passion for Vision Systems, Robotics, IoT & Servo Systems will be highly regarded
  • TUV / CMSE certification will be highly regarded.
  • Self-motivator with high quality standards
  • Team player with strong collaborative interpersonal skills, and able to work independently 
  • Fast learning with a proactive, positive ‘can do’ attitude
  • Well organised with high attention to detail
  •  Experience in project management would be beneficial, but not essential
  • Candidate must have their own vehicle to allow for site / customer visits where OMRON will compensate for mileage.
